Macbrow Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-11-08
Short version: Macbrow runs on your Mac. Your calendar, reminders, clipboard history, shelf files and music information are read on your Mac and are not sent to us. We do not run accounts or usage analytics inside the app. On this website we use Google Analytics 4 only if you accept it.
1. Who we are
The controller of personal data described here is Jetforge Labs OÜ, an Estonian private limited company, registry code 17116764, Tornimäe tn 5, 10145 Tallinn, Harju County, Estonia. Contact: hello@jetforgelabs.com or https://jetforgelabs.com/#contact. This policy covers the Macbrow app for macOS and the website macbrow.co. It follows the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. What stays on your Mac
Macbrow shows information from your Mac in the notch. It accesses, with the permissions you grant:
- Calendar and reminders, to show today’s events, meeting alerts and your open reminders, and to mark reminders as done when you choose.
- Clipboard, to keep a clipboard history you can paste from.
- Files you drop on the Shelf, and new screenshots found in the folder where macOS saves them.
- Music and media playback, to show what is playing from the system media source, Spotify or Music, and to control playback. For Spotify, the cover image is downloaded from the address Spotify provides, which is a request to Spotify’s image servers (see section 3).
- Camera, to show a live preview in the Mirror section while it is open.
This data is processed on your Mac. Jetforge does not receive it and cannot recover it for you. The Assistant uses Apple’s on-device model. Macbrow needs no account.
Where it is stored: the clipboard history is kept as files in your Mac’s Application Support folder (a clipboard.json index plus stored images), limited to the last 50 copies, newest first, and you can clear it at any time. Macbrow does not record copies that password managers or apps mark as secret, nor copies from a built-in list of password managers. The Shelf keeps a list in the same folder: files you add from your Mac are referenced by their location (not copied), while text snippets and files delivered by drag and drop are stored in Macbrow’s own folder. An item stays until you remove it, and a referenced file leaves the shelf when it is deleted or moved to the Trash (the file itself is never touched by Macbrow).
3. What we do collect, and why
| Situation | Data | Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6) |
|---|---|---|---|
| You buy Pro on Gumroad | Name, email, payment and billing data, handled by Gumroad as Merchant of Record. We receive limited order information such as your email and licence key. | Take payment, issue receipt and licence key, handle support and refunds | Contract (6(1)(b)), legal obligations (6(1)(c)) |
| You activate or revalidate a Pro licence | Your licence key and the Macbrow product identifier are sent from your Mac to Gumroad’s licence API to confirm it is valid and count the Macs using it. The check repeats about every 30 days. The key is stored in your Mac’s Keychain. | Check your licence | Contract (6(1)(b)) |
| Macbrow checks for updates | Your IP address and standard request data reach the update server (GitHub Pages hosts the appcast) and, when you download an update, GitHub Releases. Sparkle’s system profiling is not sent. | Deliver updates and security fixes | Legitimate interests (6(1)(f)): keeping the app secure and up to date |
| Macbrow shows Spotify artwork | When Spotify is playing, Macbrow downloads the cover image from the address Spotify gives it. Only the request itself reaches Spotify’s image servers (your IP address and standard request data); Macbrow sends nothing else. | Show the cover in the notch | Legitimate interests (6(1)(f)) |
| You use the weather feature | Your approximate location is sent from your Mac to MET Norway (api.met.no) to request the forecast, with standard request data such as your IP address. | Show the weather in the notch | Consent through the macOS location permission (6(1)(a)) |
| You contact us | Your name, email and message | Reply to you | Legitimate interests (6(1)(f)) or contract |
| You visit macbrow.co | IP address and request data in the host’s server logs (GitHub Pages). If you accept analytics, also the data in section 4. | Serve the site and, with consent, measure it | Legitimate interests (6(1)(f)); consent (6(1)(a)) for analytics |
Macbrow does not collect usage analytics, telemetry or crash reports from the app. We do not sell personal data and do not use it for advertising or profiling. There is no automated decision-making.
4. Analytics on this website (Google Analytics 4)
macbrow.co uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Ltd., only if you click Accept in the cookie banner. Until then no request is sent to Google and no analytics cookie is set. The controller is Jetforge Labs OÜ.
- What it measures: page views and clicks on the download and buy buttons, in aggregate, so we can understand which parts of the site work. We do not use it for advertising: ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation are denied.
- Cookies:
_gaand_ga_*, which distinguish visitors and sessions. According to Google they last up to 2 years. Because our sites (jetforgelabs.com, getdilo.co and macbrow.co) share one property, a link between them can carry a visitor identifier so that one visit is not counted as several. - Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and the ePrivacy rules).
- Withdrawing consent: use “Cookie settings” in the footer of any page and choose Reject. Your choice is stored in your browser (
jf_consent) and can be changed at any time. Rejecting also removes the analytics cookies this site set. - Transfers: Google may process data in the United States, under the safeguards described in section 7.
5. Who receives data
- Gumroad (payment, Merchant of Record, licence API). It acts under its own privacy policy. https://gumroad.com/privacy
- GitHub (hosting for the website, appcast and downloads). It receives IP addresses in its server logs. https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/privacy-policies/github-general-privacy-statement
- Spotify (cover images, only when Spotify is playing). https://www.spotify.com/legal/privacy-policy/
- MET Norway (weather forecasts, only if you use the weather feature). https://www.met.no/en/About-us/privacy
- Google (Google Analytics, only with your consent; and Google Workspace, our email, used only when you write to us). https://policies.google.com/privacy
We do not use other processors for Macbrow.
6. Providing data is optional
You do not need to give us personal data to use the free features of Macbrow. To buy Pro you need to provide payment details to Gumroad, and to activate it your licence key must be checkable. Each macOS permission is optional, and the feature that depends on it stays off if you decline.
7. International transfers
Gumroad, GitHub and Google are based in, or use infrastructure in, the United States. Transfers rely on the safeguards those companies use, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses. Ask us for details at hello@jetforgelabs.com.
8. How long we keep data
- Purchase and tax records: as long as the law requires accounting records to be kept (in Estonia, generally seven years), mainly held by Gumroad.
- Support messages: until your issue is resolved and for up to 24 months afterwards.
- Analytics event data: 14 months in Google Analytics.
- Server logs at GitHub: as GitHub’s policy states.
- Files and data on your Mac: until you delete them. We cannot delete what we do not have.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability of your personal data, and withdraw any consent you gave. Write to hello@jetforgelabs.com. We reply within one month. For data held by Gumroad, GitHub or Google, you can also contact them.
10. Complaints
You can complain to us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular the one in your country, or the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon), Tatari 39, 10134 Tallinn, info@aki.ee, https://www.aki.ee/en.
11. Children
Macbrow is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
12. Security
Data stays on your Mac, protected by your Mac’s own security (use FileVault). Updates are signed. Communications with Gumroad, GitHub, MET Norway and the update servers use HTTPS.
13. Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app or on macbrow.co.
